Granite and Mojave Sky

Description

The Eastern Mojave Desert is a diverse landscape. At the southern end of the Mojave Scenic Preserve, the Granite Mountains rise to 5,000-6,000 feet. The granite was intruded around 100 million years ago, was uplifted and exposed by erosion. Spheroidal weathering has produced the many rounded boulders. Hidden in the rocks are thousands of petroglyphs from the prehistoric desert dwellers. It is a little known corner of the beautiful desert.
