Desert Patterns

I complete my little foray into the glory of desert landscapes with the Furnace Creek Badlands at Zabriskie Point. The soft shales offer little resistance to erosion, and soils cannot cling to the soft surfaces, so plants cannot gain a roothold. Intricate patterns of channels result, which can change rapidly with each new flood.
